I was very impressed with the immediate difference in the wine's taste after using the Vinturi Wine Aerator. Easy to use, simple to clean, and quite the conversation piece. The Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator is definitely worth the price ($40). The Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator itself is attractive, compact and solidly built. The Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator appears to be a simple oblong plexiglass "funnel" with a rubber grip. There are two small channels in the center of the funnel, which look like "cracks" in the plastic (I've read product info that assures worried buyers these cracks are proper and unavoidable). Wine is poured through the top of the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator, and immediately a suction sound is heard as the pouring draws air into the wine before it escapes out the bottom of the funnel. The aerator is easily held, and I've never had a problem with spills.

Now on to the "effect" of the Vinturi. We like to use the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator to experiment with younger red wines for 5 months now. It's interesting to see the difference in taste! I've conducted several "blind" tastings with friends, and we all agree - this thing works. Even eating out, it is essential to have the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator. Most restaurants do not ever know what a decanter is never mind have one. The Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator always gets a lot of looks from wait staff in restaurants when you pour your wine in the glass using it. They want to know where they can get one.

Then I had to prove to our local wine group that the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator really works...here is some comments. This little device DOES work! The Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator definitely opens up wines--old ones, new ones, high alcohol content ones, and seems to accomplish the aeration process quickly and easily! Very good for having "just one glass" without aerating an entire bottle at one time. Appears well made, is attractive, and, well, WORKS! Highly recommend the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator!

If you're a serious wine drinker - or shopping for a wine drinker in your life - give this product a try. At $40, the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator is about the price of a decent California Cabernet, and will yield results for decades to come. I plan on picking up a few dozen this Christmas and giving them out as gifts to business clients.

Metrokane V1 Decanter

It's time you stopped pouring out your leftover wine. Metrokane, the folks behind the Rabbit corkscrew, have developed the world's first decanter with vacuum sealing, the Metrokane V1 Decanter ($79.99) will keep your favorite bottle fresh until the next pouring. The 52-ounce hand-blown crystal decanter comes with a vacuum stopper and an easy to use hand pump and has solved the troublesome problem of what to do if you've decanted a bottle but can't finish it in one evening. The Metrokane V1 Decanter comes with a vacuum stopper and a pump with a gauge that tells you when you have pumped the right vacuum. The Metrokane V1 decanter is the original multitasking wine tool. It’s used to aerate red wines to quickly improve its character. It’s indispensable when straining sediment that can collect in older bottles of wine. And it always adds that impressive touch of class when serving wine at the dinner table.

Here is a personal story of wine useing the Metrokane V1 Decanter, I opened a bottle of Arista Winery Pinot Noir, and poured all but a glass full into the decanter. I fastened the tight-fitting top in place, and pushed the vacuum plunger up and down until it achieved a tight vacuum seal. The next day I opened a second bottle of the same wine and compared it to the portion in the V1. The wine that had overnighted in the Metorkane V1 Decanter tasted nearly the same as the recently uncorked Pinot. Don't you love it when leftovers don’t taste left over? Yeah, me too. I purchased mine from WineStuff.com
